The Parts Editor - Buidling a better mousetrap

I don't want a better moustetrap I want the abscence of mice. And a cat would do that.

This post relates to the Fritzing Parts Editor. As a new user, I don't want a Parts Editor I would like the parts to already be available.

So perhaps you could think of a way to populate Fritizing with as many parts as possible? This doesn't necessarily need an awesome graphical Parts Edtior. It does need the desktop app to phone home to get the latest set of parts though.

Maybe scraping parts off the web or creating a bounty system so that people can vote/fund the parts they need? Or a frictionless way for users to upload the parts they do create?

Just a thought :-)

Hi Duncan,

We're going for both paths in parallel. Stay tuned.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the news. It is good to hear that you are attacking this on more than one front. Antoher thought is that you could put a Bill of Materials feature and a Purchase button into your app.

That would push the problem of populating your app with components on to the suppliers that want to sell to your users.

You might still need a Parts Editor but maybe there is an opportunity here to build something more disruptive?

Hi Duncan,

yes, this is really on the list but beleave me – is is very complicated for us. If we were Amazon we could start tomorrow but we need to learn everything to that business. And we are only a few so we can only fight the fires one by one.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the suggestions. That means we are on the right track.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Best

Stefan"
