A Circuit for Beginning Tinkerers

This image shows a simple circuit consisting of a 10 kilo-ohm (10000 ohm) resistor and a photo cell, which detects wavelengths of light. The photo cell is a standalone component because it is separate from the Arduino UNO Development Board.
