Connect a Line6 Floorboard to an arduino nano with a Cat5 cable, no mod to the floorboard required.

*English Below

I bought a used Line6 Floorboard, only to find out that it only works with some Line6 products. I didn't give up and started researching and ended up with this project.

It allows you to connect your floorboard to your computer via the arduino nano usb connection, and handle the floorboard in a Max7 patch which can then be used to send-receive midi or control other patches or any other software.

When looking for information I found a project that requires you to mod the floorboard, in my case this is not needed, you only connect your floorboard to your arduino using a Cat5 cable directly to the floorboard RJ45 port, The arduino does the rest.

I made the interface with Max 7 since that acommodates my setup, but It can be modified to communicate via MIDI straight from the arduino, without the need of the usb connection or computer. If someone needs that mod I could add it to the project.

I wanted to know what I would have to add in the ino to be able to use it that way

My pod is not compatible with my floorboard. I planned to do the same thing you did to use it in the pod via midi.

Hey David. I don't own a pod but I think the floorboard might be fully compatible with it. just connect them with a cat5 cable. the floor pod doesn't support midi, but instead uses a proprietary protocol that other line6 products support. Hopefully your pod has a cat5 port, and if it does, just use that one and it should just work.

How would I have to do to add the midi input and use it in the pod? I would like to know why I don't understand Arduino language. my email is: [email protected]

Hi. I've been working with other stuff and have not had enough time to continue with this project. I hope I can continue soon. Hey Jan, I think your USB power source doesn't have enough current, try using a powered usb source. Thanks for your comments

After some more testing I found that the floorboard LEDs seem to load down the ardunio and therefore wont light up. If I connect a single LED to digital I/O #8 without connecting the floorboard it flashes at startup. I also have serial output when buttons are pressed & when moving the footpedals. The floorboard works OK with my amp. What has gone wrong?

Thanks for this project. Can't get it to work with Max7 though (never used it before), so I'm looking forward to the update to use it with MIDI via USB!

That's great. Much appreciated!

Hi. Currently it communicates via serial connection only, which is not exactly the same as MIDI. I will do some updates so you can use it as a MIDI device over USB and with a couple MIDI ports.

This project is very interesting. I currently have the same floor board along with the matching amp. Lately I have started using my ipad with Bias FX for amp modelling and effects. Would love to use this project so that I can jack that into my ipad to control the effects and preset selection, in Bias FX. There are ways that I can connect my ipad to USB and other ways to connect a midi device with a midi connector. Do you know if this would work via USB to the iPad? I am not sure if I understand what max 7 is and how it fits in with this solution. Thanks for posting this project.
